Resources for Freelancers

Here are some useful resources where freelancers can find tools, conversations, and communities around all things freelancing rates.

Rate Calculator

Creator Pricing Calculator

This incredibly handy calculator helps creatives and freelancers calculate sustainable rates based on monthly expenses, taxes, and billable time.

You can use it to work out rates per hour, day, month, or project.

Communities

The Digital Marketing Union

The DMU is by far my favorite Slack community of independent marketers. I've been a member since October 2020, and I could not imagine freelancing without it.

It's full of kind, smart, generous freelancers who chat all things freelancing—including fees and payments.

Being Freelance Community

Being Freelance started as a podcast in 2015, and over time grew into a community with tons of virtual and in-person activities.

I adore the unofficial tagline: Come and meet your new BFFs (Being Freelance Friends).

Books & Magazines

Freelancer Magazine

Technically, Freelancer Magazine is part-magazine (obviously), part-community. Members get access to the quarterly digital or print magazine, entry into the 'Find a Freelancer' Directory, events, virtual community coworking sessions and, importantly, freelance business planning meetings.

Founder Sophie Cross created this super useful Freelancer Cash Flow Template to help you get a sense of what your freelancing financial year will look like.

Taxes & Admin (coming soon!)

🚧 I’m working on a page with key tax dates for freelancers in different countries, with links to official sources, to help make tax planning a bit easier.
